I've been using a solution called Sharpertek 1220 degreaser/carb cleaner and it works really well. The Sharpertek really starts to work well once the heater gets the solution up to temperature. Jan 09, 2013·I don’t see anything dangerous in using a Ziploc bag but, unless your ultrasonic cleaner is very large or you are using very expensive cleaning solutions, I also don’t see an advantage to using a bag, or other additional container, in the process. By the way, ultrasonic cleaners are usually very safe for delicate parts.

It is alkaline, so it should be safe for gun finishes (careful about nickel). A capful (tbsp) does the job.
